Senior: Adlai E. Stevenson High School is an exceptional school! From the first day of my Freshman year there, I have been surrounded by nothing but supportive faculty and staff. My teachers pushed me to go beyond my limits and always strive to do better. Outside of academics, extracurriculars are a great way for students to get involved. I myself joined the archery team there and from my first day, the team members treated me like I was already family. Stevenson does have some flaws of its own, no school is perfect. I wish other sports clubs, like my own, are given more opportunity and space to practice. Unfortunately such clubs on the bottom of the pyramid are prioritized last over the competitive sports, especially now with the construction going on in the practice space. Space is limited. Freshman: The school district of 225 is actually a very, very good district and constantly ranks among the best in the nation. Even though my peers may not know it, we have it pretty nice for high school. Very generous food programs, an extraordinary selection of electives, are all part of the experience here. Not only do we have a very large selection for electives, the district takes them all seriously too. For theater - we have a grand hand will dual rows of seating and a enormous stage. For the aquatic sports - there are 2 pools in a large indoor facility and plenty of space to host competitions all year round. We have a beautiful entrance hall which will awe any visitor - and this is in only ONE of the 2 schools! Senior: I have had a great experience with the Great Neck Public Schools over the 13 years I have been attending schools in the district. For kindergarten, I went to Parkville, for elementary school I went to E.M. Baker, for middle school I went to Great Neck North Middle School, and for high school I have been in Great Neck North High School. Let me just say that everything is amazing in these schools. I loved all of my teachers over the years, as they have really prepared me for my next step in life. I love the clubs and activities offered at the schools, as there are so many of them that the schools offer. Lastly, I love the schools’ environments, as they all have such a positive and supporting environment and help each student get through every day. Senior: As an introvert, I really liked Zoom school. I know it’s a controversial thing to admit, but I really loved going to school on Zoom. I thought my school district handled Zoom school well. We had 4 period days (instead of our usual 8 period days) and Wednesday’s were teachers choice days (our teachers decided if we wanted to meet synchronously or asynchronously— most teachers decided asynchronous!). Everyone had the same lunch period and it was over an hour long, which was just amazing because it gave us some time to relax, stretch, and energize to finish the rest of the school day of strong! As much as I loved e-learning, I’m actually very excited to go back to school in person this year (senior year!) and get to see my friends and teachers! Senior: The school has numerous exceptional programs in Physics, Calculus, and Tech Theatre departments, as well as many amazing sports teams (though primarily the football team). A majority of students take some advanced classes, and many take all, however even for students on or below grade level classes, the expectations and rigor is still unparalleled by any public school in the state. The diversity of the school is quite poor, however that's not to say that the school is extremely whitewashed like you might see in a place like Lubbock or Amarillo , In my personal experience, the lack of diversity is usually just in the numbers, despite the small percentage historically low income minorities, the student body is still diverse in that many people come from around the country and world. Parent: This public school system offers superior education to all but the most elite private schools such that any kid lucky enough to live in the district has an excellent opportunity to learn, achieve and matriculate at an elite university despite not having all the benefits of upbringing or affluence. Public education is the great equalizer in society and very few district in the USA do it better than Ladue. Compared to where and when I went to public school, the instruction my kids receive is like that which was offered to the richest kids who attended the best private country day school. In terms of value, nothing beats the Ladue School District. In areas where public school systems are plagued with poor performance, this kind of education would cost you 30K or more per year per student at a very competitive private school. Senior: My experience in STISD was great because STISD has a lot of great things to offer. STISD has a lot of great clubs and activities. One club that the students get most excited about is HOSA since STISD almost always places on top since STISD already focuses on the medical field. STISD gives you the opportunity to graduate high school with a certification! On your senior year, you get to choose a program that you want to get into. I choose dental and I am a registered dental assistant and I also have my Nitrous Oxide Sedation Monitoring certification. STISD also offers a lot of AP classes to gain college credit. STISD is barely starting to add more sports because when I entered, there was only volleyball and basketball but they are adding golf, soccer, and softball!
